35th Anniversary Party

The Bathurst Family History Group on Saturday November 16, celebrated 35 years since its formation with a party held in the Senior Citizens Centre. This get-together was also the opportunity to have our new centre officially opened by the Local State Member of parliament Paul Toole, who had arranged a grant to assist in setting up our new premises.

General Meeting and guest speaker Dr Rob McLachlan who spoke about the administration of the Bathurst Settlement in the 1830’s, “Bitchy Bathurst Bureaucrat Battles”. During the meeting President Dianne Barnes presented the Group’s 300th financial member Michele Morgan a CD copy of ‘Bathurst Pioneers’ which is available here

The Bathurst Female Factory which housed female convicts in the early 1800’s was in the vicinity of Charlotte & William Streets. It was the first two storey building west of the mountains and had a brick floor. It was demolished shortly after it ceased to be used for this purpose.
