Practical Technology for Family Historians

Family history today is about more than dusty archives – it’s about using the right digital tools to organise, research, and share our stories. In this engaging webinar, family historian Andrew Redfern will showcase practical, easy-to-use technologies that save time, cut through clutter, and bring research to life. From managing files and naming conventions to restoring photographs, transcribing old letters, and making the most of online records, Andrew will demonstrate real-world examples that you can start using straight away. He’ll also highlight a range of ways to present and share your family history, using technology to make your stories more engaging and accessible. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to sharpen your digital skills, this session will give you the confidence to use technology as a true research companion.

Andrew is a keen family historian with an interesting array of ancestors including convicts, murderers, priests, wealthy gentleman, travelling musicians and the odd asylum inmate. He is a current director of The Society of Australian Genealogists where he is leading the integration of artificial intelligence into family history research. Andrew is particularly interested in how technology can enhance our everyday lives and how digital tools can be used in creative ways to share family history findings. He has numerous connections to the Bathurst area, dating back to 1825 when his 3rd great grandfather took up land near Rockley.
