ISBN 0959949925Thomas and his wife Charlotte Wythes and their four sons sailed for Australia in 1839 on the “Neptune”. Charlotte died in 1840. After her death Thomas met and married Mrs. Margaret Hosie, a widow with a four young children. The family moved to Hill End in 1851. By early 1873 the population of Hill End had grown to about eight thousand people and in August 1873 the Borough of Hill End was proclaimed and gazetted. Thomas Wythes was elected the first Mayor.
