“This is a history of the small private hospitals, usually under the control of one or two nurses, which once existed in Bathurst. The first intention is … to identify the hospital buildings or their sites if buildings no longer exist, and to record their locations. But as most were lying-in, or maternity, hospitals, it became necessary to tell something about the nurses who managed them.”
