The first record of exploration in the Black Springs area was that of Charles Throsby on April 25, 1819, who followed an earlier track blazed by surveyors James Meehan, Throsby and Hamilton Hume.

Travel to Black Springs and hear tales of the old town and its colourful early citizens. Who was Foley the Bushranger? Mary Hogan, nee McMahon who was born in 1777 at Innis, Ireland and died in 1859 aged 82 is often regarded as the matriarch of the original Black Springs community and is buried there.
Visit historic Avoca church, built in 1888. A $2 donation payable on the day will go to
the Black Springs Progress Association.
