"This is a history of the small private hospitals, usually under the control of one or two nurses, which once existed in Bathurst. The first intention is ... to identify the hospital buildings or their sites if buildings no longer exist, and to record their locations. But as most were lying-in, or maternity, hospitals, it became necessary to tell something about the nurses who managed them."
